CURRENT EXHIBITs
Join us in celebrating the opening of our latest exhibition in the Charlotte Glencross Gallery featuring work by Fundy region artist Alyssa Martin.
The exhibition Where Water Wanders features places in the Fundy region of New Brunswick that are often far from most peoples’ experiences. These are places that make the artist’s heart soar. Wild spaces, where one can walk for a whole day and not meet another human. In these places they find their breath and feel wholly alive and free. The use of colour and flowing brush strokes embodies the feelings they seek in wild spaces and in turn share with viewers. The artist’s current work features colour, vibrancy, and life that has begun to blossom from the hard work done during recovery and dark nights of the soul navigating her health.
The artist’s decades long love affair with wild spaces is poignantly evident as the viewer is transported to places virtually void of human affects and remote enough to not have cellular reception. There are also messages and words hiddenwithin the vibrant images. The use of vivid colours are a reflection of how the artist feels when they are in places full oflife and untainted by human exposure, particularly their garbage. Leave no trace is their way of life- not merely a popular slogan.
On display until April 27.
The exhibition opening also features a collection work by the late visual artist/printmaker Grant McGean (1952-2019) on display in the Penny Gallery Annex.
Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Grant studied at the Alberta College of Art and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design before making his home in Fredericton. His work has been exhibited in Japan, England, Germany, the United States, Argentina, Egypt and Canada and his style is strongly influenced by the abstract expressionism movement.
We are honoured to exhibit a selection of work from the Grant McGean estate thanks to the help and cooperation of his widow, Wendy Craig. Learn more about Grant's work at www.greenblockgallery.com.
On display until April 27.
